A two-day summer seminar, comprising 6 hours of tuition, covering the following:

 

DAY 1 – 9.30 AM – 1 PM

INTRODUCTION TO 3 KEY AREAS OF LLB LAW

9.30 – 10.30 – Introduction to Contract Law – Overview of elements to make a contract (offer, acceptance, consideration, intention, capacity, consent, public policy) with a case discussion of Carlill v Carbolic Smokeball Co Ltd

10.45 – 11.45 – Introduction to Criminal Law – Overview of actus reus and mens rea with a case discussion of Fagan v Metropolitan Police Commissioner

12.00 – 1.00 – Introduction to Tort Law – Overview of negligence law (duty of care, breach of duty of care, causation and remoteness) with a case discussion of Donoghue v Stevenson

 

DAY 2 – 9.30 AM – 1 PM

INTRODUCTION TO KEY LAW SKILLS

9.30 – 10.30 – Essay Writing Skills – including how to plan, research, write, set out and reference a good law essay.

10.45 – 11.45 – Problem Question Skills – how to answer a problem question, planning, research, writing and setting out the answer.

12.00 – 1.00 – Exam Technique Preparation – how to plan the study timetable, how to tackle learning, planning in the exam itself and approaching the exam answers.

 

The aim of the sessions is to arm the potential law student with an overview of three core LLB topics and to provide a detailed explanation of the key skills, approach and techniques required to succeed on the LLB law degree.
